The Snap-Lock Instrument Stringer is a slender stainless wire frame that closes. That is the whole difference between this string and the open types: once a set of ring-handled instruments has been threaded onto the frame, a slim cross bar is snapped across the top and each of its ends is gripped by a small flat clip block sitting on the frame wires. The instruments that were free to slide on a moment earlier are then held on the string, so a loaded stringer can be picked up, carried between stations, and racked without the set travelling along the frame or sliding off the end.
The frame itself is a tall narrow loop: two long runs rising to the top, joined at the bottom by a rounded right-angle bend that gives the string a corner to be wiped and a closed end for the set to sit against. The wire on the opposite side of the frame from the locking bar finishes in a tapered tip. Run it open, the set threads on quickly and comes off just as quickly; run it locked, the same set stays where it was put. The reference photos show the stringer both ways — the bar clipped across the top, and the bar swung clear of the frame.

The String Closes
A slim cross bar snaps across the top of the frame and locks the set on.
Flat Clip Blocks
Each end of the locking bar is gripped by a small flat clip block sitting on the frame wires.
Nothing Slides Off
A loaded stringer can be carried and racked without the set travelling along the frame.
Open For Threading
With the bar swung clear, instruments slide on and off quickly.
Rounded Closed End
A rounded right-angle bend closes the bottom of the frame and wipes clean.
Slim Bar
The locking bar is slimmer than the frame wire, so it closes without adding bulk.
Tapered Wire End
The wire opposite the locking bar finishes in a tapered tip.
Instruments Held Apart
Instruments thread along the two runs and hang open rather than nested.
