Closed At One End. Open At The Other. Rigid All The Way Through.

The Fixed Instrument Stringer is the rigid one: a single continuous stainless wire formed into two long parallel runs, squared off at one end through two rounded right-angle corners and left open at the other. There is no joint anywhere in the frame, and that is the point — the two runs hold their spacing under load, so a set stays exactly where it was threaded instead of drifting as the frame is moved from station to station. Ring-handled instruments slide on through the open end and come to rest against the flat cross bar at that end, so the set spreads along the frame with each instrument held open and clear of the next one: box joints, ratchets and hinges are left exposed to the medium rather than clamped shut against a neighbouring instrument. The frame carries the whole set through the cycle and out again as one bundle, so no instrument is picked up on its own. Where this version differs from the foldable stringer is simply that it does not fold — there is nothing to open, close or hold straight, and the frame is ready to load every time it is picked up.
